Diversity & Inclusion

Velosport Cycle Club (VSCC) is a friendly club based in Putney, created for the Borough with an aim to introduce a wider audience to road cycling. Weekly rides will be led for a variety of skill levels, from complete novice to seasoned campaigners.

The club exists for all levels of riders and is keen to promote new cyclist becoming involved
with the club. The club is here to help you enjoy and improve your cycling experience.

We want ever member to to feel equally welcome and included at all Velosport Cycle Club
meetings and events.

Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise offensive and inflammatory remarks
and behaviour are not acceptable. These constitute harassment and have no place in the
Velosport Cycle Club or society in general.

Purpose and Aims

• provide equality, fairness, and respect for all in our club, whether temporary, part-time or full-time
• not unlawfully discriminate respecting the Equality Act 2010 protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation
• Encourage equality, diversity and inclusion in the club as they are good practice and
promote fairness
• Create an environment free of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful
discrimination, promoting dignity and respect for all, and where individual differences
and the contributions of all are recognised and valued
• Take seriously complaints of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful
discrimination by members in the course of the clubs activities
• Decision concerning membership is based on a shared value system respecting
diversity and inclusion policy
• Review policy when necessary to ensure fairness, and also update them and the policy to take account of changes in the law
• Monitor and report the make-up of the Velosport Cycle Club membership regarding information such as age, sex, ethnic background, sexual orientation, religion or belief, and disability in encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion, and in meeting the aims and commitments set out in the equality, diversity and inclusion policy

Velosport Cycle Club Commitment

Velosport Cycle Club is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our club, and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our club to be truly representative of all sections of society and our members, to feel respected and be able to express their passion for cycling.

How VSCC Deal with Complaints

• The Velosport Cycle Club takes complaints of discrimination and harassment seriously
• The Velosport Cycle Club will investigate them thoroughly, and provide opportunities for the person making the complaint to speak in a safe environment about their experience
• If the complaint is against a particular individual, the Velosport Cycle Club will act fairly to understand each point of view
• The Velosport Cycle Club Diversity and Inclusion Committee member will decide the action to take based on the principle of ensuring the continued inclusion and safety of any member who has experienced discrimination or harassment
• Any decision to terminate someone’s membership will be made in line with the rules set out in the application process
