Who we are

Who we are

Based in Putney, Velosport Cycling Club is an inclusive and welcoming cycling club created in 2011. The club’s membership has grown to more than 80 members and is proud that women comprise over 10% of the membership.

More than a club, we aim to make our members feel part of a community by supporting each other in achieving cycling goals and offering a wide program of activities both on and off the bike. At Velosport CC, we believe cycling should be a sport anyone can get involved in regardless of gender, race, age or beliefs. We welcome members from any background, whether you just enjoy riding your bike and want to keep fit or if you are looking for training support for a big event.

Our history

Velosport Cycling Club’s roots stretch back to 2011 when Steve James opened the Velosport cycling shop based in Putney, South West London.

Not long after the shop opened Steve started to run regular midweek rides, which in the early days, were attended mostly by staff and a few customers.

In 2013 the Velosport shop was then approached by Wandsworth Council and asked to set up a friendly, inclusive local cycling club, which meant the informal rides evolved into a British Cycling affiliated club; Velosport Cycling Club.

The club has grown steadily over the years and you will now find groups of club riders sporting the iconic orange and black club kit across the Surrey Hills, rolling countryside of Berkshire, the Kent Lanes, the Chilterns, and further afield in Europe’s sportives.

Velosport Cycling Club is a thriving community of cyclists who enjoy an enthusiastic and supportive network of like-minded bike lovers.

Diversity and Inclusion

We want every member to feel equally welcome and included and VSCC respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person involved in its activities. VSCC is committed to team members enjoying cycling in an environment free from discrimination, intimidation, harassment and abuse. VSCC believes that it is the responsibility of all of its members to challenge discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.

Back in 2015 Velosport partnered with the existing women’s UCI team Servetto Footon, to form a women’s elite development team of six riders including British Time Trial Champion Hayley Simmonds.

The team was set up to be a stepping stone into pro cycling, aiming to support talented riders on their passage to a fully-fledged career.
